By: Tristan Fuge · Jun 26, 2008  · Los Angeles

Dorothy Marcic's musical revue, Respect: The Girl Em-Powered Musical, will make its West Coast premiere at the El Portal Forum Theatre in North Hollywood, July 19-August 31. With direction by Peter J. Loewy, this production will also feature musical direction by Jim Vukovich.

Respect takes a look at the lives of famous female figures such as CoCo Chanel, Betty Boop, Rosa Parks, Marilyn Monroe, and Ida B. Wells to chronicle the lives of women throughout the 20th century as played out against the songs they were listening to during various periods in their lives. The musical features an ensemble cast of four and more than 60 songs, from Gershwin's "Someone To Watch Over Me" to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," as well as "I Wanna Be Loved by You," "Tonight, You Belong To Me," "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend," "Whatever Lola Wants," and many more. The cast will feature Nikki Crawford, Susan Carr George, Jackie Seiden, and Alet Taylor.

The creative team will also include Lee Martino (choreography), Victoria Profitt (scenic design), and Ivy Thaide (costumes).
